This is the third time he has written to the Interior Ministry this year. The mayor of Langon Jérôme Guillem had already questioned Gérald Darmanin twice. He sent a new letter to his successor Bruno Retailleau to request an increase in the numbers of the Langon gendarmerie.
During the municipal council meeting on November 14, the elected official took advantage of a question from opposition elected official Didier Sendrès on the problems linked to the consumption of alcohol on public roads to recall the actions already taken to combat delinquency. businesses, but also the demand for additional resources. “I would like to express strong recognition to the gendarmerie, we are certainly not saying that they work poorly, but appropriate resources are needed. »
The issue of numbers
If the population of the sub-prefecture is around 7,500 inhabitants, the mayor argues that nearly 25,000 people pass there every day. In his letter for the month of October, he cites the 3,500 students, the 1,000 daily travelers in transit through the station, but also the attendance linked to health establishments and public services.
“In the same way, we must divide the number of facts by 25,000 and not 7,500”, affirms Jérôme Guillem, in reference to the ranking which placed Langon in 2023 in the top 20 of small towns which record the highest rate of attacks and injuries per capita.
Gérald Darmanin responded to the previous letter, last July, by highlighting the creation of three new brigades in Gironde (Izon, Le Barp and Mios). The minister also listed the various devices of the Langon company: surveillance and intervention platoon, cell for attacks on people and children… and the creation of two additional positions since 2017. The Langon-Toulenne brigade currently has 31 soldiers. Note that the City of Langon employs five municipal police officers and two public highway surveillance officers (ASVP).
