During this general assembly, only one candidate presented himself to take over the presidency, following the resignation of Pierre Rossi, long-time president. Ange Campocasso was elected and declared: “Ensure the continuity of the work that has been carried out for years. I understand the magnitude of everything that has been done in favor of our sport. Pierre Rossi and his team leave a healthy committee, sitting on solid foundations. It is a challenge that is being thrown at me today after having been one of the vice-presidents of the departmental committee for four years. I am therefore committed to continuing this work while seeking to make improvements that will meet everyone's expectations. We will also be the mailbox between the clubs and the French Federation. With Grégory Cugurno, Jean-Pierre Grazzini, François Bruschini, Manuela Hautecoeur, Lydie Ferrari, Paul Mariani, Laurent Paoli, Marie Renosi and Carlu Grazzini, we will work to achieve our objectives. »
An ambitious program for pétanque in Haute-Corse
The main objective of the new president is to further popularize pétanque among younger generations, while continuing to support long-time members. “I am convinced that we can attract new enthusiasts, young and old, by making our sport more accessible and more attractive, through local events as well as awareness-raising actions,” said Ange Campocasso.
Among these actions, he wishes to offer demonstrations and initiations in schools, in order to generate interest among young people. He also plans to develop pétanque schools in each club, particularly in Corte, a university town. “We want each club to have a school. For this, we will also work on the training of educators, but it is necessary that volunteers invest in these structures,” he pointed out.
Structuring projects for the committee
In addition to the development of schools, the committee aims to expand the practice of the Provençal game in Haute-Corse, with the organization of competitions throughout the year. “We are also thinking of organizing a major competition in the form of a festival and awarding the regional championships more equitably, so that all interested clubs can host them. We finally want to give ourselves the means to organize a French championship,” added the president.
To achieve these ambitions, the committee will have to strengthen its financial resources by seeking new sponsors. “We know it well, the sinews of war is money,” concluded Ange Campocasso.
Furthermore, this Saturday, the election of the new regional pétanque president will take place in Ponte-Leccia, at the Café des Sports. Lino Di Franco, after four years at the head of the regional committee, decided not to seek a new mandate.
