Summer scheme to pedestrianize the city center

In order to regulate traffic and allow all users to live together safely during this very busy period, the City of Biarritz is continuing to develop the establishment of pedestrian zones in the city centre this summer.
This system aims to increasingly improve the safety and enjoyment of pedestrians who wander on the sites concerned, while respecting the daily lives of local residents and promoting commercial activity.

The system will be in place from Monday July 1 to Sunday September 1, 2024 and will include 2 zones with separate schedules :
The coastal zone (Port des Pêcheurs, Esplanade de la Virginie, Mazagran, Sainte-Eugénie, Port-Vieux and Côte des Basques) will be pedestrianized from 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m.

The hyper-central area (Clemenceau, Victor Hugo, Poste, Gambetta, Halles) will be pedestrianized from 1 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.

This year again, the City of Biarritz wanted to adapt the system as closely as possible to the particularities of each district of the city center by adjusting it as follows:

Broquedis and Alcide Augey streets are reintegrated into the pedestrian zone from 1 p.m. in order to reduce car traffic between two very busy areas, Les Halles and Rue Gambetta. Access will be managed by installing a barrier at the corner Broquedis/Victor Hugo.

A terminal is installed at the entrance to rue Gambetta at the corner with Victor Hugo to secure the bottom of rue Gambetta while allowing vehicles to go up via rue Victor Hugo.

The growing direction of rue Victor Hugo is perpetuated. The Victor Hugo terminals (at the corner with rue Broquedis) will be raised for security purposes. You can exit the pedestrian zone by presenting yourself in front of the bollards which will lower automatically after detection of your vehicle.

As a reminder, since last year, access to all pedestrian zones in the hyper center will be via rue de la Poste via two barriers : one for rights holders and one for users of the Bellevue car park. Access to Place Clemenceau via the Khédive is only reserved for emergency services and shuttles.

Access to boulevards de Gaulle and Leclerc along the coast is reserved only for users of the underground car parks of Grande Plage and Sainte-Eugénie, residents of the area and users of the Port des Pêcheurs, in order not to clog the coastline. .

Access to areas

Visit the dedicated page to find out how to access the areas. (right holders, registrations, perimeter information, etc.)

Parking and traffic

Access to all underground car parks is maintained, i.e. 2,125 spaces.

Free relay parking in Iraty is connected to the city center on its own site by line 7 which now runs all year round from 7 a.m. to midnight.

On the Basque Coast

The free shuttle N13 which leaves from the Esplanade du Port-Vieux, serving Hélianthe and Milady, for an arrival at the Cité de l’Océan will be in service from July 6 to September 1, every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., every 30 minutes.

An electric TUK TUK service will serve the Prince de Galles Boulevard free of charge from the Port-Vieux esplanade to the “Sunset” every day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., from July 1 to September 1. A 6-seater vehicle equipped with a surf rack and a second 4-seater vehicle will provide rotations.
