On November 16, 2024, around twenty people were present for the inauguration of the path, including many elected officials from Bagnoles (Orne), as well as representatives of the Andaine sports association and Cars Oxygène.
Connect the GR22 to the Massue
“This project has been in the works since 2018,” says Mayor Olivier Petitjean. We deliberated on it at the municipal council, then we canvassed the Laumondière estate so that they give us part of the rural road on their property.
The objective was to find continuity between the GR22 higher in the forest, up to La Massue.
Holders of 18 hectares, the three co-owners of the estate represented by Hervé Courtois at the inauguration, agreed to split their territory in two to cede the rural road to the city. This approach was the subject of a public inquiry “which has never aroused so much interest and participation” informs the mayor, then numerous notarial acts which have led to the path being formalized only today.
The path extends over 350 meters and has a small part with a steep slope. It is also not straight in order to bypass the nearby source, for safety reasons.
Its inauguration is a good step forward for the promotion of the Bagnolais region and its hiking trails, but the ambitions do not stop there.
Indeed, the objective now is to formalize a path which connects La Massue to La Noé Plaine. Here too, there has been a long-standing discussion, “but pitfalls lengthen the delays, such as a stream and passing through private areas”.
There is no doubt, however, that this great initiative will succeed.
