The last flames have been extinguished for hours, but the smell of burning wood still hangs in the air a few meters from the kiosk in Boston Square. It is at this location in downtown Laval (Mayenne) that members of the agricultural unions FDSEA and Young Farmers lit a “fire of anger” at the end of the day, Monday November 18, 2024.

The area protected by barriers

This fire marked the end of a day of mobilization that began around 4 p.m. the day before with the blocking of the Europe Bridge. Around fifty farmers gathered at the height of the movement. This Tuesday, November 19, the extinguished fireplace is still clearly visible, surrounded by barriers marked “Laval” and installed by the town hall services.

The City indicates that its agents “are responsible for the restoration” of the site and announces that a complaint will be filed. A financial request will then be sent to the prefecture after assessing the amount of damage.
