Like every year, the Joseph-Kott Prize was awarded by Licra to several classes from Roannais for their work on issues of racism, anti-Semitism and discrimination.

“You are the bearers of our values. It is up to you, future active citizens of our nation, to fight against all forms of obscurantism.” This is the message that Bernard Kott wanted to convey to the students of three middle school classes in Roannais on the sidelines of the presentation of the Joseph-Kott Prize, named after his father, a Roannais resistance fighter who saved thousands of Jews during the Second World War.

A popular game and podcasts

Two classes from Albert-Thomas college were awarded the Licra. The 5 e 1 worked on developing a board game based on the Trivial Pursuit model: “Kill the discrimination”. The questions were divided into six themes: racism, religion, sexual orientation, disability, physical aspects and sexism. Awareness of social networks is also included in the game and this has been welcomed by the Licra.

The 5 e 2, they created a series, “Les Valeureuses”, of 11 podcasts paying tribute to 11 female figures of the Resistance: Lucie Aubrac, Miriam Makeba, Simone Michel-Lévy, Andrée Geulen, Anne Frank, Rosa Parks, Denise Bastide, Audrey Hepburn, Sophie Scholl, Rose Valland and Linda Brown.

Finally, the 3rd class e 301 of the Collège des Étines, was honored for having produced a podcast of a fictitious interview with a Jewish woman, an anonymous person and the cousin of Joseph Kott, to retrace the action of Joseph Kott , like a radio report.

At the end of the ceremony, the three classes were given a diploma, a check and a copy of the book. Céline Koplewicz, itinerary of a hidden childhood ( read page 19 ).

This award ceremony took place in a very troubled period on the political level, where questions of racism and anti-Semitism are stirring debates. Joseph Kott’s granddaughter, Nathalie Kott-Watchel, made explicit reference to it in her speech: “By cultivating yourself in this way, by seeking to understand and transmit history, you give yourself the means to become adults who do not will not be fooled in the face of fake news in the face of rewritings of history and in the face of those who say that the Shoah did not exist or minimize its seriousness.
