In Névez, the book boxes, the first of which was installed in front of the village hall in 2023 following a project led by the municipal youth council, continue to grow. This year, four new boxes were installed near the beaches of Dourveil and Port-Manec’h, and two others in the town. There is also one in Kerdruc, but carried out by the neighborhood association. “They work very well and are very popular with locals and summer visitors alike,” assures Max Delbecq, director of technical services where the boxes are manufactured in-house. Their production having been entrusted to Georges Trolez, a retired agent recruited for the occasion. The latter is also the author of Santa Claus’ mailbox, installed in front of the tourist office.
A different pattern for each location
Given the success of the approach, four new parts are being manufactured. The retiree, Georges Trolez, obviously takes a lot of pleasure in making these boxes, he pampers them. “No one is the same, the pattern of each represents the neighborhood for which it is intended,” explains Georges Trolez. Doves for the Atlantic residence and its social housing, bowlers in action for Raguénez, a camper van and a football player for the club near the stadium, parasols and relaxation for Rospico beach and finally an ermine for the box of the village of Kerascoët and its cottages. If the first boxes were made from recycled wood, the last ones were made with purchased material, but for less than €3,000. All will be completed and installed at the beginning of 2025. The Dourveil book box, established since last year, will, however, be closed this winter. “It is undoubtedly too close to the sea, and Books are damaged here more than elsewhere,” concludes Max Delbecq.
