Tahiti, June 26, 2024 – Corentin Decaen is under arrest warrant after his conviction by the Castres court for a bitcoin scam. The 27-year-old man reportedly took up residence in Papeete.

“The king of smoke”, this is how our colleagues from La Dépêche du Midi define Corentin Decaen, sentenced Tuesday by the Castres court to two years in prison and is today under an arrest warrant for having defrauded more than a million euros to dozens of people thanks to a bitcoin scam. A scam that the latter practiced with the complicity of his father.

“Corentin, the 27-year-old son, and Olivier, the 53-year-old father, were sentenced to 2 years and 12 months in prison respectively. They are both banned from writing checks for 5 years and from running a business for 10 years. An arrest warrant has been issued against Corentin Decaen who has been hiding in Tahiti since he was prosecuted in this case. assures the journalist from Dépêche du Midi. The two scammers will also have to pay more than 650,000 euros to their victims in compensation for their material damage.

The two Decaens are accused of having taken money from people, in the town of Mazamet, by claiming to have created “a thriving IT company”, which in fact never existed. Using a Ponzi pyramid type mechanism, they remunerated their old investors with the money swindled from the new ones.

Two other bogus companies accompanied the scam. A fictitious bank in Albi, as well as a fake bitcoin company in Saint-Sulpice.
