Maison Joseph Drouhin in Beaune announces its first wine transport by cargo sailboat in a press release. In partnership with TOWT (TransOceanic Wind Transport), 15,000 bottles of Chablis and Côte de Beaune white 2022 wines will embark in the summer of 2024 aboard the Anemos, for a transatlantic crossing between Le Havre and New York. “This carbon-free navigation reduces CO2 emissions by 90% and sulfur oxide emissions by 98% while guaranteeing the quality and integrity of the wines during the crossing lasting around two weeks,” states a press release.

Two annual expeditions planned for the coming years

This transatlantic crossing by cargo sailboat is a long-term one with two annual expeditions planned for the coming years until the arrival of new boats. “This action represents not only our fundamental values, but also our commitment to a better future for our planet and for future generations,” praises Frédéric Drouhin, Chairman of the Management Board.

The Anemos is part of the new generation of cargo sailboats for transporting its wines by cargo sailboat. Currently being finished in Concarneau, this ship will be inaugurated very soon in Le Havre before leaving for New York. The Anemos promises to reduce CO2 emissions thanks to its mainly veiled propulsion. “With its 80 meters in length and a load capacity of 1,100 tonnes, Anemos is the largest and most efficient cargo sailboat in its category,” assures the press release.
