Following the call for mobilization launched by the Young Farmers (JA) and the FDSEA 55 This Monday evening, November 18, the farmers took a new step in their rallying. L’Est Républicain reports that in 42 communes South meusianTHE village entrance signs were methodically disassembled by pairs and trios of disgruntled farmers.
Operation: confiscation of the panels
Gathered in Void-Vacon, a dozen young farmers planned this lightning operation. The slogan was clear: each targeted village had to see one of its signs removed, for a spectacular deposit this Tuesday morning around 11 a.m. in front of the prefecture of Bar-le-Duc.
The ongoing actions of farmers demonstrate their dismay in the face of difficulties. Last winter, farmers' strong actions allowed them to obtain aid and simplification measures, but according to them, certain promises remained unanswered.
A shock action
This year, the objective is to “show that agriculture is losing its vital compass”, explained Lucas Stadelmann, head of JA for the Void-Commercy sector, to our colleagues. In the crosshairs, agricultural policies deemed unsuitable, but also economic and climatic concerns which compromise the future of local farms, such as opposition to the EU's proposed free trade treaty with the Mercosur (Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay). An agreement judged to be “a source of unfair competition and destabilization of European sectors”.
The causes of the crisis are still multiple: “rising production costs, stagnant sales prices, and requirements poorly adapted to the reality on the ground”.
A response expected from the authorities
By multiplying shock initiatives, farmers hope force the State to react.
Farmers demand “ concrete measures ».
