The collision occurred shortly after 11 a.m., on the D743, the busy route linking Niort to Parthenay. A heavy goods vehicle traveling in the Niort-Parthenay direction collided with a car, a Renault Clio, which was traveling in the opposite direction.
The impact was very violent and the damage was considerable. The person driving the Clio, an 83-year-old woman, found herself trapped in her vehicle.
For more than an hour, the twenty firefighters participating in the intervention carried out his extrication, in particular by dismantling a large part of the car.
The car hit the right front of the truck. The driver is unhurt, but shocked.

It was around 1 p.m. that the victim was finally extracted and taken care of, conscious, by the Samu. She was transported to the Niort hospital center, in a state of relative emergency.
“I really thought she was dead”
The driver of the heavy goods vehicle, originally from Vendée and working for Grimaud Transport, was unhurt. He witnesses the scene. “I had just picked up my cargo, concrete blocks, at La Crèche, I was driving towards the Paris region. I saw that a car coming in front of me tried to overtake. Except that she didn’t fall back, she moved to her left. I braked but it was too late.”
The gendarmerie investigation will determine the exact circumstances of the accident. Shocked, the driver was reassured when he learned that the victim was conscious. “I really thought she was dead. »
