Act 2 of the mobilization of the agricultural world. HAS Châlons-en-Champagne (Marne), some 200 farmers demonstrate on the evening of Monday November 18 in front of the prefecture, where some are preparing to spend the night to protest against the EU-Mercosur free trade treaty or the “suradministration” and campaign for a decent income, noted AFP journalists. Farmers, supported by a unanimous political class, have been mobilizing since Monday across France against the free trade treaty between the European Union and Mercosur.
A large gathering in Dordogne. In this department, many farmers took to the road to express their opposition to the treaty with Mercosur. Five convoys from the FNSEA and Young Farmers left on Monday afternoon in the direction of Périgueux, where a large gathering was organized at the end of the day, reports our journalist on site. The declaration of Emmanuel Macron, who refuses the signing of this treaty “as is”, did not reassure farmers. “We have no confidence in his words”testifies Nicolas Lagarde, cattle breeder in the department.
The return of mobilization. The majority union alliance FNSEA-JA kicked off a new cycle of farmers' mobilization on Monday, with symbolic actions expected throughout the territory. Less than a year after a large-scale movement of anger in the countryside, agricultural unions are once again calling on their troops to demonstrate, but in dispersed order. Several actions are underway in the region. In Vaucluse, farmers planted vines under the Avignon bridge with a message: “Our end will be your hunger”reports France Bleu Vaucluse.
Various demands. Affected by poor harvests and emerging animal diseases, farmers believe they have still not reaped the fruits of last winter's anger: the implementation of the 70 commitments then made by the Attal government was notably slowed down by the dissolution of the National Assembly. And they consider the standards as complex as ever and the income insufficient.
Minister Annie Genevard addresses farmers. In an attempt to appease the anger of the agricultural world, the Minister of Agriculture spoke on Monday, in a video posted on social networks, of the implementation “Today” of two cash aid which had been announced two weeks ago. “I sincerely hope that these devices (…) will provide the answers you expect”she tells the farmers.
