Scenes of unbearable violence. A minor under the age of 16 was taken into custody this Sunday, November 17 around 5:15 p.m., after a brawl between two rival gangs that occurred in the Mireuil district, in La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime), CNEWS learned from the city prosecutor's office this Monday.
This minor is being prosecuted for “degradation of public property, participation in an armed group with a view to committing offenses against people or property” following the stone-throwing of a bus in the town during the altercation.
However, the La Rochelle prosecutor's office detailed to CNEWS the context in which this brawl between rival gangs took place. It turns out that the damaged bus was occupied by supporters of Villeneuve-les-Salines, a football club from a district of La Rochelle whose match took place this Sunday in the Mireuil district.
While celebrating their victory against a Nantes club in a competitive match, the supporters were attacked by individuals in the Mireuil district, more precisely at the “Kennedy” bus stop, the prosecution told CNEWS .
“It appears that a firecracker was thrown on the bus”
“We are talking about around fifteen people possibly involved in the stone-throwing, including one who was equipped with a bat,” according to the public prosecutor.
On social networks, we can actually see a few people gathering in front of the stop and trying to enter the bus through the central doors.
The situation seemed to be getting worse and a few blows were allegedly exchanged during a reciprocal pulling or pushing scene.
However, according to the La Rochelle public prosecutor's office, “it seems that no individual from the Mireuil district entered the bus and fought inside the bus. However, it appears that a firecracker was thrown into the bus through the open doors and exploded inside.
Thus, and after the events, the 16-year-old suspect was named by witnesses as one of the perpetrators of the attack. He was arrested as part of an open investigation. For now, this is only just beginning.
The videos, filmed by the bus and city cameras, “must be viewed”, explained the prosecution, indicating that “no complaint for intentional violence has been filed by possible victims”.
The interdepartmental directorate of the national police (DIPN) of La Rochelle was responsible for the investigation.
