The new service provider of the International Cycling Union (UCI) has asked the organizers of the VC Laissac to make it THE nerve center in France for marathon mountain biking from 2025 to 2027. If everything is not yet 100% ready, but still in During the negotiation, it is on very good track according to Laissagais president Pierre Boyer.
The information was released on Saturday during the general assembly of the departmental cycling committee, having also seen Victor Santos elected, in two stages, as new president. Pierre Boyer, founder and chief organizer of Roc Laissagais, announcing to the audience: “It is not yet completely signed, but we should organize the only French round of the marathon mountain bike world cup over the next three years.”
For the flagship Aveyron event taking place at the beginning of June, this is a big blow. Certainly, the Roc has already supported French, European and even world championships in the long distance discipline (80 to 90 km). But once again becoming a non-class type race for the UCI by choice, the event benefits from the arrival of a new service provider, European this time.
“Last year, the World Cup format was managed by the Americans from Warner Bros. Discovery. There were only three rounds and we couldn't find our way,” recalls Boyer. And to continue: “This time, we are on five dates, we will be the only ones in France for three years. HERO, an Italian structure, was tasked by the UCI with setting up this world cup.”
And the Italians called on Aveyron volunteers whose reputation is well established, with, what's more, an ideal playground in the Palanges forest.
Fans accustomed to the event can rest assured: the Roc will not change its recipe in any way, where diversity between amateurs and the world elite is crucial. Moreover, the usual formats for young people, hiking or even enduro will still be there during the first weekend in June.
“In fact, it is especially at the level of communication and image that things will evolve, make us grow even more,” explains Pierre Boyer, already referring to the broadcast of the race on Eurosport.
