This Tuesday, June 25, two fire stations in Nancy, in Meurthe-et-Moselle, closed. A brand new unit has opened in the Rives-de-Meurthe district. It became the barracks with the largest workforce in the department.

It is a brand new building in the Rives-de-Meurthe district, in Nancy, in Meurthe-et-Moselle, on a plot of 11,400 m², in which the firefighters of two barracks are moving in this Tuesday, June 25, the one from the center of Nancy, boulevard Joffre, and that of Tomblaine.

This new building is spacious, with carefully designed traffic directions. It is also designed to have a low environmental impact. Rainwater is collected to wash the vehicles, but also to supply the training pool. Photovoltaic panels will soon be installed on the roof.

With 80 professional firefighters and 60 volunteers, it is the fire station with the largest staff in the department.

This Tuesday morning, in the two barracks, it was the start of the moves, with a little nostalgia for some. Commander Vincent Maire, head of the Nancy Tomblaine intervention center, was eager to settle into the new unit, but he recognizes that leaving his Nancy Tomblaine barracks is not without emotion: “Tomblaine is a story that began in 1973.

The current head guard lived in the building just behind it when he was a child, with his father who was stationed here. Tomblaine belongs to all the firefighters of the department. Many ceremonies took place here. We were a reception center, a recruitment and competition center. The building also housed the departmental school for many years.”

It’s the same emotion for Nancy Joffre,“especially when we are going to close the doors”says a firefighter from the station.

In the new building, where the first firefighters arrived, installation has begun. Commander Gérald Mahé, head of the new barracks in Nancy, Rives-de-Meurthe, is happy to see this long-term project take shape. “It was launched as part of the restructuring of the central district. Tomblaine was a little run down. We took advantage of this opportunity to bring two barracks into one. It will be the largest barracks in the department in terms of personnel. We are going from four to three units for Nancy. But it is an optimized building in terms of operation. We are happy to see the outcome of this wonderful project.

Box transfers continue for a few days. The firefighters are ready to take on their missions. Besides, they didn’t stop during this move.”
