A building threatening to collapse was evacuated by the Val-d'Oise firefighters, Thursday, November 7, at 19, rue Jean-Moulin in Argenteuil (Val-d'Oise) in the Val-Notre-Dame district.
As a safety measure, the firefighters also evacuated the residents of the two neighboring buildings, at numbers 17, 21 and 23 as well as the pavilion at number 15.
Imminent danger order
Access to the accommodation was subsequently prohibited and around a hundred people had to leave the premises.
According to information from Parisien 95, it was the fall of a block of stone into the bathtub of the apartment of one of the tenants which prompted the latter to call the firefighters who, after examining the building, notably the presence of structural disorders (among others a crack in the interior wall revealing the exterior daylight) carried out the evacuation.
In the process, the mayor (Dvd) of Argenteuil, Georges Mothron, took a imminent danger order.
Crisis unit
The municipality has set up a crisis unit to take care of residents and rehouse them. The case was taken very seriously, while the trial is currently taking place on rue d'Aubagne in Marseille where eight people died in the collapse of a very damaged building. According to the town hall, the Argenteuil building has similarities.
Unhealthy habitat
This is a he lives unsanitarily and unworthilymanaged by “ sleep merchants ».
The tenants were placed in the premises of the municipal police for shelter. They had to be helped by the municipality with administrative procedures, particularly with insurance.
The municipality of Argenteuil is mobilizing
Temporary accommodation in hotels was also covered by the municipality of Argenteuil.
In a message published on the X network, Georges Mothron denounces the unsanitary living conditions imposed on these tenants in certain co-ownerships. “End of lease for slumlords: their criminal negligence threatens our residents! Since yesterday (Thursday, November 7), our teams have been tirelessly mobilized to support the families evacuated from rue Jean-Moulin.”
A meeting was to be held on Tuesday, November 12, regarding rehousing. New assessments must be carried out and the City has said it is ready to initiate legal proceedings alongside the victims.
According to the town hall, 1,300 co-ownership housing units with very degraded housing have been identified in Argenteuil.
