Intense tropical cyclone Bheki is 1,510 km from Reunion Island and 750 km from Rodrigues Island

As predicted by Météo-France La Réunion services, at the end of last week, Bheki strengthened to become an intense tropical cyclone. It was located at 4:18 a.m. this Monday, at points 17.1° South and 69.6° East, i.e. 1,510 km from Reunion. Forecasters at the Chaudron station estimate that winds at sea reach, on average, 175 km/h. The fastest gusts recorded (at sea) are estimated at 250 km/h.

Bheki passed its peak of intensity late Sunday afternoon. “It is now in a weakening phase. It continues its movement towards the southwest and is currently approximately 750 km northeast of Rodrigues,” specify the meteorologists.

The system should be even less intense when it approaches the sister island and comes as close as possible to Reunion.

Attention ! “L“uncertainty in the trajectory forecast at this still distant time frame does not make it possible to quantify the expected impacts”, conclude the editors of the Chaudron station.
