If you felt like you had a rather sunny start to November, you’re not wrong. Will this situation last? Forecast.

The month of November is known to be a dark, cold and gray month. However, in 2024, November is a little different from its usual ways to offer us temperatures above seasonal norms and more hours of sunshine.

Between 80 and 90% of the hours of sunshine already received

Montreal normally receives 84 hours of sunshine for the entire month of November. From November 1 to 16 inclusive, that is to say during the first half of the month only, the metropolis was entitled to 75 hours of sunshine. This proportion represents almost 90% of the brightness generally observed for the entire month.

The scenario is similar in Gatineau, which received 70 hours of sunshine between November 1 and 16, out of a seasonal normal of 84 hours as well. In other words, Gatineau has already received approximately 83% of its regular hours of sunshine.

Will reality catch up with us?

This little stroke of luck, however, may not last forever. In fact, the hours of sunshine will return to their seasonal normal from Monday.

With the exception of Tuesday, the hours of sunshine for the next week will oscillate between 0 and 2 hours of sunshine only for southern Quebec. Tuesday will be the sunniest day, offering six hours of sunshine.

“With today (this Sunday) which is likely to offer us between six and eight hours of sunshine in southern Quebec, we will have almost reached the average for the month, in just 17 days,” explains Patrick Duplessis, meteorologist.
