A few days before the announcement of the measures of Act II of the shock of knowledge, the Aveyron unions are rebelling and calling for a day of strike on December 5, 2024.
Tuesday November 12, 2024, the Minister of Education, Anne Genetet, presented Act II of the clash of knowledge. From June 2027, obtaining the certificate in third grade will be compulsory to progress to second grade. “What are we going to do with students who don’t have the certificate? We can’t make them all repeat a year,” murmurs from the heads of Aveyron schools. “Some students who do not have the certificate do BTS and do very well. Tomorrow, that will no longer be possible. It’s sorting out the students,” protests Sylvain Lagarde, departmental secretary of SNES-FSU.
“A drop of water in an ocean of discontent”
Another measure announced: from next year, 4th and 3rd grades will benefit from “needs groups”. Sophie Héran, departmental secretary of UNSA Education, is opposed to it. “It will widen the gap depending on the social origins of the children. Our colleagues are tired of adapting to systems that change every year. They are chasing time and we see that there is no effectiveness. “
“There is a level of fed up among teachers,” denounces Sylvain Lagarde. “We have reforms that are making the profession lose meaning. This announcement is a drop in the ocean of discontent in the profession.” Savings on the civil service to the tune of 1.2 billion euros, introduction of three unpaid waiting days, reduction in sick leave compensation… Trade union organizations are calling on civil service agents to go on strike for a day, on December 5. “We are going to decline this mobilization at the level of Aveyron. The idea is to say: enough is enough.”
