Angers Nantes Opéra has unveiled its program for the 2024-2025 season, marking the sixth and final season under the artistic direction of Alain Surrans and the third illustrated by Makiko Furuichi.

In Angers, the program will include four operas, three original creations, two meetings with baroque music, three “Voices of the World” concerts, and several concerts in collaboration with the Angers Nantes Opéra Choir, the Angers Conservatory, and the Organ Spring. In addition, three “Family” concerts and a concert dedicated to those under thirty will also be on the program.

This season is notable in particular for an increase in events and available places: “ The season will include more than 75 performances, 15 more than the previous year, and will offer 50,000 seats for sale, an increase of 10,000 seats », indicates Alain Surrans.

Operas, dance and concerts

Among the major operas, “Il Piccolo Marat” by Pietro Mascagni will be presented for the first time in France with a concert version staging in October. The story takes place in Nantes, during the revolutionary period of the Terror in France where, from November 1793 to February 1794, the infamous drownings of aristocrats and religious people in the Loire took place.

Verdi’s La Traviata, directed by Silvia Paoli, will be presented in March 2025 in Angers, while Mozart’s Magic Flute, directed by Mathieu Bauer, will perform on the stage of the Grand Théâtre in June 2025.

Several creations will also be on the program with “Close Up” by Noé Soulier, a contemporary dance show based on pieces by Bach, “La Falaise des demoris”, an opera-jazz-diskan composed by Jean-Marie Machado directed by Jean Lacornerie, as well as “Le Voyage de Wolfgang”, a lyrical tale for young audiences imagined by Marie-Bénédicte Souquet.

On the bill of baroque music and world voices are “Il Nabucco”, a great oratorio by Michelangelo Falvetti and numerous concerts featuring international artists such as Maryam Chemirami, Selamnesh Zéméné, and Andalusian flamenco artists.

“Making opera more accessible”

Angers Nantes Opéra strengthens its commitment to artistic and cultural education by collaborating with schools, colleges and high schools to introduce young people to opera. Specific projects such as “Mozart’s Children” for middle school choirs and thematic discoveries for high school students around La Traviata are also planned.

« One of the missions of Angers Nantes Opéra is to make opera accessible to all. Concerts dedicated to young people, audio description sessions and braille programs are set up », explains Alain Surrans.

Free childcare will also be available during certain performances to allow parents of young children to attend the shows.

Sales began on June 21 for Angers Nantes Opéra PASS holders and will open on Friday June 28 at 1:30 p.m. for single ticket purchases. Tickets for The Magic Flute will be available from November 26, 2024.

All information and reservations can be found on the Angers Nantes Opéra website.
