The co-spokesperson for Québec solidaire (QS), Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, launched a call for calm Friday evening in the wake of Haroun Bouazzi’s controversial statements on alleged racism in the National Assembly. The supportive MP is now the target of hateful comments.
If the remarks made by Haroun Bouazzi were judged clumsy
et exaggerated
by the two co-spokespersons of QSGabriel Nadeau-Dubois and Ruba Ghazal, these do not justify, according to Mr. Nadeau-Dubois, the surge of violent and hateful messages
which has been the subject of Mr. Bouazzi for the last 24 hours.
I came to appeal for calm this evening. Haroun’s statements [Bouazzi] caused a lot of reaction. […] In recent hours, we have witnessed some frankly worrying slippages. […] The outpouring of hateful messages is unacceptable. I have never seen this in my political career.
Faced with this excessive influx of hate calls
the representative of the Maurice-Richard constituency in Parliament and his teams had to return to their homes on Friday to security issues

The co-spokesperson of QS, who reiterated his disagreement with the comments of the supportive MP, also clarified that this matter was still the subject of heated discussions within his party. Edge [Ghazal] and I were very clear about what we thought of his statements
