A meeting bringing together the PS, the Greens, LFI and the PC took place Friday November 15 in . Part of the left has agreed on a common candidacy around Élie Cordier, except LFI and Ambitions for Gap, for the moment.

A little over a year before the municipal elections, the left-wing opposition in Gap (Hautes-Alpes) seems to want to play it collective. A political and symbolic meeting was held on the evening of Friday, November 15, in an establishment on Place Jean Marcellin, BFM DICI learned.

Representatives of the four major left-wing parties (PS, EELV, LFI and PC) were seated around the same table, in addition to elected officials from the three municipal opposition groups.

A list without LFI and Ambitions for Gap

Some of the groups present agreed on a union and gathering list, carried by Élie Cordier. The list “is supported by EELV, PC, PS, Gap Otherwise as well as Territoires Écologie et Solidarités”, indicated a press release, received by BFM DICI.

“Ambitions for Gap and LFI were also present and take more time for reflection,” specifies the union list.

“We are starting without delay our campaign for the municipal elections and winning this city in March 2026. This is the first time that such a broad left union list has presented itself in the municipal elections in Gap,” concludes the left union list.

The objective of this union is to build a common candidacy in March 2026 to defeat the outgoing mayor Roger Didier. “The idea is really to accelerate the machine and arrive strong and united from the start of 2025,” whispers a linchpin of this union at BFM DICI.

Élie Cordier, architect of Marie-José Allemand’s victory

Before the meeting a question remained: if the union was formed, behind whom would the left launch into battle?

Elected deputy last summer, the socialist Marie-José Allemand could not be head of the list, unless the National Assembly were to be dissolved by then and the Gapençaise failed to get re-elected. Ditto for Pascale Boyer, beaten in the first round of the early legislative elections and too marked in the center politically.

Élie Cordier, Charlotte Kuentz and Isabelle David were the three most legitimate to carry this torch. Firstly because they are already members of the opposition in the Gap municipal council, and because they have never hidden their desire to access the mayor's chair.

The youngest, Élie Cordier, had the most advantages among these three favorites to play the union card. The young socialist was first and foremost a great architect of Marie-José Allemand's victory in Parliament, securing her support. Finally, he never stopped crossing swords directly with Roger Didier to try to establish a long-term duel.

If Isabelle David is behind the candidacy of Élie Cordier, this is not the case for Charlotte Kuentz, who is part of the Ambitions pour Gap group. It remains to be seen whether the latter and LFI will ultimately play the union card for the municipal elections or not. In Gap, the past has proven that the left's greatest adversary is often the left itself.
