He says he “locked himself in” in a “shithole”. The rebellious deputy for Loire-Atlantique Andy Kerbrat, arrested on October 17 in the act of purchasing narcotics in Paris, financed this consumption with his advance of mandate fees (AFM), revealed Mediapart this Friday. In 2023 alone, the period of his peak drug consumption, the elected official has accumulated nearly €25,000 in transfers or cash withdrawals from this envelope. Withdrawals are often made in the middle of the night.
The ethics officer of the Assembly seized
The elected official, who has since requested to be hospitalized in psychiatry, admitted to the online media that he had “done anything” with this envelope of €5,950 monthly and which is used to cover expenses linked to the activity of the deputies (already paid monthly to the tune of €7,600 gross). But if he took it regularly to finance his personal lifestyle, he disputes that the cash withdrawals identified by Mediapart were used to “buy drugs”. He indicates that he has since reimbursed the prohibited expenses.
The President of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet also indicated that she had referred these facts to the ethics officer and promised to take legal action “in the event of misappropriation of public money, especially to finance illicit expenditure”.
