It's a intervention which did not go unnoticed. Two fire trucks from L'Aigle (Orne) and Courtomer (Orne) arrived with sirens blaring on the Europe Squarein downtown L'Aigle, this Friday, November 15, a few minutes before noon. The UNA building at 5 Place de l’Europe was quickly evacuated. 25 people leave the UNA offices, Percher water union and the association Ysos.
A suspicious smell
Emergency services were called by a person from the Ysos association, located on the ground floor of the building which has three floors. A strong smell of gas alerted the occupants of the building. The suspicion of gas leak is immediately followed by effect. The emergency services alerted the gendarmerie, the L'Aigle municipal police and the GRDF intervention team.
A hazardous mixture causes the smell
In a few minutes, the sector is closed. And the firefighters, equipped with respirators and gas detectors can enter the building. The large ladder allows firefighters to inspect the smoke exhaust duct on the roof.
After a confirmatory inspection by the GRDF team, the possibility of a gas leak is ruled out. Fortunately.
The suspicious odor comes, according to firefighters, from a mixture of maintenance products in a water drain pipe.
More fear than harm
The head of the fire intervention group, the Captain Laurent Delion reminds that in the event of suspicionit is always better to call for help without delay. THE instructions people are to evacuate the premises as quickly as possible. The captain insists on not touching the electrical appliancesso as not to start the fire. Do not touch the switches! But also, no cell phones! An instruction that many people still ignore.
