Mont Ventoux, the giant of Provence in Vaucluse, welcomed its first bottles of snow this week. This results in road closures to ensure the safety of motorists. While the Department of Vaucluse announced that the north side was now inaccessible for the entire winter periodthe South side could follow as early as next week, depending on weather conditions.
An early closure on the North side
The RD974, which leads to the summit from Mont Serein, is now closed until spring. A decision taken well before the date initially planned, obviously due to the snow that fell at the beginning of the week.
To the south: imminent closure
On the South side, the situation could change from Monday November 18, depending on the weather forecast. The Departmental Council has announced that a closure will be considered if significant snowfall and a return of cold weather are confirmed.
The road on the South slope should reopen next April and that on the North slope next May, subject to weather conditions.
