Global warming occupies a central position in the concerns of the Swiss population in 2024. According to an SSR survey, 67% of the country’s inhabitants are of the opinion that the global rise in temperatures is a serious problem and that we must intervene as quickly as possible. quickly. But nearly 70% are pessimistic about the ability of politicians to take sufficient measures.

Climate change remains a central concern for at least 67% of Swiss people, who believe that the problem is serious and requires intervention as quickly as possible. This is what shows an opinion survey carried out by the gfs.bern institute from May to June 2024, commissioned by the SSR.

Fourteen percent of respondents asked for more research before taking action. 9% consider that humans will be able to adapt to the global rise in temperatures without any problem. Finally, 6% of those questioned think that current global warming is not attributable to human activity.

Pessimism towards politicians

Although the need for action is recognized as real and urgent, almost three quarters of those surveyed do not believe that politicians will be able to take sufficient action.

This pessimism also translates into a lesser conviction that businesses and science will be able to develop new technologies to solve the problem. Only 37% believe it. And 36% of respondents think that global warming is inevitable.

A majority of Swiss say they take planes and cars less

At the individual level, with the aim of fighting against global warming, 51% already say they drive less, 55% fly less and even 56% say they have reduced the purchase of food from the stranger.
