In early June, the Coop supermarket in Saint-Quentin will become the very first Marché Richelieu in New Brunswick, a banner of the Quebec food giant, Métro.

Until now, the Restigouchois grocery store was independent with the Loblaws company as its main supplier.

“We still have a fairly large grocery store. In fact, we are the only one in town, so we said to ourselves that we needed to partner with a banner,” explains Michelle Dubé, general director of the Saint-Quentin Cooperative.

According to her, the choice to affiliate with Métro was obvious.

“There is already a grocery store in the region – the Marché Tradition de Kedgwick – which is under the Sobey’s banner. We therefore wanted to offer something different to our customers. Metro was really our preferred choice. It’s French-speaking, it comes from Quebec, so it gives us access to small, finer products, closer to our regions,” she underlines, taking care to specify that this change in no way changes the nature of the cooperative.

“The Saint-Quentin Cooperative remains the owner entity, we retain our right to make decisions,” indicates the general director.

The conversion into Marché Richelieu is underway and will be completed towards the end of the month. The official launch will take place on July 6.

Note that the Saint-Quentin Cooperative has other branches, including a hardware store (Home Hardware) and an NB Alcool franchise.
