A first operation took place last Monday following an investigation initiated in May. Information from the public notably allowed the police to carry out a search of a residence on avenue du Parc as well as in warehouses on rue Saint-Urbain.

In total, five arrests and five searches were carried out during this intervention. This led to the seizure of more than 50 g of cocaine, nearly 400 capsules and tablets whose nature remains to be determined, four cannabis plants, nearly 500 contraband cigarettes, and approximately $1,500.

The agents also got their hands on a prohibited weapon, namely a dagger, six replica handguns as well as equipment used to traffic substances such as sachets, a client list, a scale and cell phones. A motorcycle and a car were also seized as criminal property.

“Several investigations are still underway and other searches are still to come,” said Stéphane Cabana, chief inspector responsible for criminal investigations at the Granby Police Department. (Stéphane Champagne/La Voix de l’Est)

For the operation which took place on Thursday, it was following an investigation initiated in March, always with public information, that there were four other arrests and three searches which once again concern the cocaine trafficking.

“These are two separate files. The only way we can connect the two is with the seizure, cocaine. […] For the safety of the police officers, when it is a few days apart, we strategically preferred to take stock of the two files at the same time,” mentioned Stéphane Cabana, chief inspector responsible for criminal investigations of the Police Department of Granby, during a press briefing Friday morning.

The searches on June 20 took place in a home on Rue Court, in a residence on Rue de Trois-Rivières as well as in a vehicle.

This second investigation led to the seizure of nearly 25 grams of cocaine, around 500 grams of cannabis and various materials used for drug trafficking.

Arrests

A total of nine arrests were made during these two operations. The five suspects who were arrested on Monday are two men aged 49, known to the police, two men aged 46 and 56, as well as a 44-year-old woman.

They were all released on a promise to appear on September 12 at the Granby courthouse, where they will face criminal charges related to cocaine trafficking.

In the second case, Ianick Daigle, 40, from Granby, Yanick Beaulieu, 47, from Granby and Alexandre Coulombe, 21, also from Granby, all appeared Thursday afternoon.

A 43-year-old man from Granby is expected to appear Friday, and Frédérik Bastille, 27, is the subject of an arrest warrant. The latter is currently wanted by the police service.

All of these people also face charges related to cocaine trafficking. Some of these people could also face charges related to the sale of illicit cannabis.

“Several investigations are still underway and other searches are still to come,” added Mr. Cabana.
