It's a beautiful story. In Montcuq-en-Quercy-Blanc, a dad had to support his pregnant partner who had gone into labor. Advised by telephone by a midwife, a volunteer firefighter, the couple gave birth to a little girl. Little Emy was born at home, without difficulty, this Thursday morning.
7:43 a.m. This Thursday morning, the Lot Firefighters’ Alert Processing Center received a call. Online, a man, living in Belmontet in the commune of Montcuq-en-Quercy-Blanc. The man tells the operator that his pregnant wife is having contractions. As he gave information, the work begins. The baby is already showing his nose.
The dad, Damien, looks back on this morning where everything happened very quickly. “This morning, I was going to leave for work. My wife, Virginie, got up with contractions. I called the maternity ward who asked me to wait a little longer, as for the arrival of our first child. So we're not worried, but the mother's water quickly broke. I called my mother-in-law who quickly arrived. After another exchange with the maternity ward, Damien calls the rescue center. “While I was on the line with the firefighters, I heard screams from the bedroom. They were the baby's!” It happened so quickly for the dad that they didn't really have time to worry.
In this emergency situation, the operator then contacts a midwife, a volunteer firefighter in the Lot, who he puts on loudspeaker. The midwife provides the father with direct instructions and advice for the post-birth period. At the same time, the operator contacted the firefighters of the Montcuq barracks. The SMUR is triggered immediately. Little Emy was therefore born at home without difficulty, with the effective help of the mother-in-law and the emergency services. It was the firefighters who then cut the umbilical cord. “Luckily we didn’t drive to the maternity ward!” specifies Damien, the dad. “Between the first contractions and the baby’s arrival, no more than 30 minutes passed!” Last June, the Lot gendarmes, while checking a slightly speeding vehicle on departmental road 820 in Pelacoy, came across a driver in a particular hurry to take his partner to the Cahors hospital center. The latter was simply about to give birth to their child in their car. The gendarmes then escorted the vehicle to the maternity ward.

Damien's family was able to be transported around 8:30 a.m. to the Cahors Hospital Center. The teams were thus able to ensure the good health of the little girl and her mother. The parents, Damien and Virginie, will remember this day combining stress and joy. They thank the firefighters. “We thank them for their help and we are grateful”
Currently, taken care of at the Cahors hospital center, the mother and child are doing well. In a few days, they will be able to return to the family home where Emy's big sister, aged three, is already waiting for them.
