“I had to take out my generator”: hundreds of homes found themselves without electricity in the early morning on the heights of Moissac

the essential
On the evening of Wednesday, November 13, 2024, a major power outage plunged nearly 950 “customers” into darkness in Moissac (Tarn-et-Garonne). Not everyone had electricity back the next day. Forcing Enedis to intervene.

On this Thursday morning, the thermometer shows 5 degrees. And the light fog has just dissipated on the heights of Moissac. An even cooler morning for 120 homes still without electricity since the evening before, in the Fraysse and Lièvres sectors. The fault was a major power outage that occurred around 9 p.m.

Work to be planned according to Enedis

Contacted by the editorial staff, Enedis mentioned “a cut linked to an underground fault”. As a result, nearly 950 “customers” of the electricity distribution network were impacted by the outage. If after an hour, most of the Moissagais homes had regained power, still others were awaiting the intervention of Enedis technicians during the day.

“In the afternoon, we will install generators to restore power as quickly as possible for those for whom this is not yet the case,” informs Jean-Baptiste Henry, territorial director of Enedis Tarn-et- Garonne.

The effect of the cold? From overconsumption? For the moment, the precise origin of the incident remains to be determined. But the Enedis teams are already mobilized to “resolve the problem”.

Jean-Baptiste Henry details the current operations: “As of now, a fault finding truck is passing through the streets. We will check the condition of the cables in the ground. Then we will bring in an excavator to dig holes. This will be done within the week. »

System D for local residents

While waiting for power to be restored throughout the area, some residents are organizing themselves as best they can. This is the case of Alain, whose noise from a generator resonates in the Côte des Lièvres district, near the roundabout. “When there is a breakdown, it’s really important,” he reacts at the entrance to his home. “I had to take out my electro unit to be able to power the refrigerator, the freezer and open the electric shutters,” says the retiree.

On the other side of the road, Jean-Jacques and Viviane live “this situation” philosophically. “This morning, it was cat toilet,” laughs the couple, still in their dressing gowns. They also have “a small generator” but are waiting to see how long the power outage will last. “It doesn't happen often. The last time was during the bad weather in June 2023. But hey, this sets the record straight for us,” they comment before returning to warm up.

Another street, another atmosphere. At the corner of Chemins de Fraysse Haut and Bas, Latifa opens the electric gate of the house by hand. “We can't do anything and we have no news. The cut occurred while I was doing a machine, everything is still wet. The food is defrosting,” reports the mother, impatient to get back to normal.

“Which should be the case during the day,” Enedis confirmed to us.
