The Franco-Geneva region will experience Olympic time this weekend. The Olympic flame will indeed pass through Annemasse this Sundayin Haute-Savoie, at the gates of Geneva.

According to official programthe day will begin at 11 a.m. with a big parade of sports clubs and the Sports Department of the City of Annemasse.

Then, from 12 p.m., the Torch Relay will be launched. Eighteen local bearers will take turns to brandish the torch. These are “local figures of sporting, social and territorial commitment”, specify the local authorities. The route, 4 km long, is organized between the François-Mitterrand esplanade, in the SNCF station district, and the Place de la Libération, near the town hall of the border city, where the arrival is scheduled for 1 p.m. h (see map below).

It is also on this same square that the Olympic entertainment village will be held. The site offers activities around sport (climbing, cycling, disabled sports, introduction to first aid procedures, etc.).

Note that the event will result in some traffic and parking restrictions in the town of Annemasse. The Town Hall warns that “traffic may be seriously disrupted, particularly between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.”. It encourages “to anticipate your trips as best as possible and to favor, as much as possible, soft mobility and public transport”.

Let us add that the Olympic flame will not only pass through Annemasse on Sunday. It will cross the department of Haute-Savoie in several towns. Before the border city, it will be taken (in chronological order) in the morning to Annecy, Évian-les-Bains and Héry-sur-Alby. Then, after Annemasse, relays are planned in the afternoon at the Plateau des Glières, at Cluses, Excenevex and, finally, Chamonix where the lighting of the cauldron will take place (see map below).

Two days later, Monday June 25, the torch will be in another French department bordering French-speaking Switzerland; Doubs, in Franche-Comté, where it will pass, in particular, at Chaux-Neuve, Pontarlier and Maîche.

As a reminder, the Olympic flame was lit on April 16 in Olympia, Greece, in accordance with Olympic tradition. She reached Marseille by boat on May 8. She will end her journey in Paris on July 26, the date of the opening ceremony of the XXXIII Games.e Olympiad, which will take place in the French capital until August 11 (see video below).
