A little, a lot, passionately… Are you going to fall for the heady work of Luzia Simons? The Brazilian artist takes us into her garden of delights with her cleverly orchestrated bouquets of roses and tulips. If some of his floral compositions irremediably evoke the Dutch baroque paintingthe vanitas and still lifes of the 17th century, his contemporary work is definitely in the present.

To celebrate the intoxicating power of flowers, the photographer uses a very particular modern technique: scan. The artist with an undeniable plant sensitivity scans an overall composition down to the smallest detail before constructing a lush image, teeming with colors and tiny insects. Close to hyperrealismhis work therefore flirts with dreams and reality, flourishes in fiction and could undoubtedly flourish in the enchanting world of Alice in Wonderland.

With this technique, Luzia Simons does not seek to capture the ephemeral beauty of her model or even to capture the passage of time; the photographer immortalizes the life cycle of flora and fauna in creations from another age with a deliciously old-fashioned charm. Here, the plants seem to float on a dense and deep black background, almost sculptural, adding to the immateriality the timelessness of the composition.

Did you know?
Luzia Simons already counts among her admirers several museums such as the Domaine de -sur-; known for its Garden Festival, the National Archives of and the Museum of Hunting and Nature.
