The announcement is rather unexpected. After only 15 months in his post, Laurent Carrié ceases his functions as prefect of Gers as of November 25, 2024. This government decision was taken by decree on November 13 to everyone's surprise and provoked strong reactions from the Rural Coordination side. Gersoise.
In a press release posted on Facebook, the agricultural union expressed its anger and did not mince its words: “UOnce again, we can only note the total incompetence of our Parisian decision-makers in wanting to manage a country! Having only arrived since August 21, 2023, are we snatching the best Prefect of France of all time? Perhaps the people of Paris do not like to see a prefect at the bedside of his farmers like Laurent Carrie is??? The announcement of Laurent Carrié's departure comes in a context of already high agricultural tensions in Occitanie and throughout France. Despite his brief stay, the senior official contributed to the advancement of several important files for the department, notably the Auch slaughterhouse, the RN 124 and the new hospital project.
But this departure may prove to be a blessing in disguise. According to information from France 3 Occitanie, Laurent Cassié will take up his new position at the Elysée. The ideal place to make agricultural demands heard?
