When it exceptionally opens its doors during heritage days, the Ailly lighthouse always welcomes many curious people.

It is a site with very high tourist potential that the town of Sainte-Marguerite-sur-Mer (Seine-Maritime) and the CAP association, Culture, art and heritage in the country of Ailly, have wanted to promote for many years. through possibilities of opening to the public.

A big step has just been taken at the initiative of the Dieppe-Maritime Agglomeration, in partnership with the interregional direction of the East Channel Sea-North Sea and Dieppe Normandy tourism.

The Ailly lighthouse will open to the public in the form of pre-defined guided tours on five dates: June 29, July 20 and 27, August 4 and 24, 2024.

The history of the site told

These visits will be led by a guide-lecturer who will tell the history of the site. They will last one hour over several time slots.

Volunteers from the CAP association in the Ailly region will be involved in the event by welcoming the public and supervising visits.

For Stanislas Leverdier, president of the association, “this is the happy reward for the work carried out by the association for several years, in particular by Philippe Héritier, Daniel Guérout and Henry Daniel”.

The announcement of the news was made very formally at the Ailly lighthouse, Tuesday June 4, in the presence of Nicolas Langlois, president of Dieppe-Maritime, Véronique Depreux, mayor of Sainte-Marguerite, and Emmanuelle Caru-Charreton, president of the Dieppe Normandy tourist office.

“In a territory, there is a need for symbols to unite, the sea is our DNA in Dieppe-Maritime and this lighthouse will allow us to shine beyond our local borders,” declares Nicolas Langlois.

These five dates are a first step before the developments for a long-term opening of the site to the public.

“This marks our desire to stimulate tourism dynamics, but we will remain attentive to ensuring that our territory does not suffer from overtourism,” adds Nicolas Langlois.
