the essential
Theft of equipment affecting construction professionals is increasing in the region.
On the night of November 12 to 13, 2024, the DIY store Big Mat, located on Avenue de l'Europe in Millau, suffered a large-scale burglary.
DIY tools, hand tools, work clothing and personal protective equipment were stolen, causing damage estimated at several thousand euros, although the exact amount remains to be confirmed, according to our colleagues at Free Midday. The gendarmerie opened an investigation this Wednesday morning to try to find the perpetrators of this break-in.
Intrusions last month
Last month, Millau and its surroundings had already been the scene of several intrusions into utility vehicles, emptied of their equipment. These thefts, which often target expensive equipment, are a source of concern for local artisans and businesses.
The Federation of Building and Public Works (FBTP) of Aveyron denounces a “real scourge” which seriously impacts the activities of the sector. The FBTP also recalls the “Ras le Vol” initiative, launched in the 2000s to raise awareness among professionals about securing their equipment and their sites. This campaign, although still relevant, is struggling to stem the phenomenon.
