During the night of Tuesday 12 to Wednesday 13 November 2024, an accident occurred on the A10, around 2 a.m., near the Rouillé-Pamproux area. It concerns a private ambulance, which transferred a 3-year-old boy, accompanied by his mother, from Rochefort hospital (Charente-Maritime) to the pediatric department of the Poitiers university hospital center.
According to the commander of the Deux-Sèvres departmental road safety squadron (EDSR 79), the ambulance hit the pier beacon located just before the exit to the rest area, following a loss of driver control. The vehicle then rolled over, before coming to rest on its side.
No vital prognosis involved
Nineteen firefighters were mobilized. The emergency services took care of the mother, aged 23, and her child, both located in the back of the ambulance. They were seriously injured in the collision. Taken in for emergency services, the mother and her son were taken to the emergency room in Poitiers. On the morning of Wednesday, November 13, we learned that their vital prognosis was not in jeopardy.
The two paramedics, for their part, were transported to Niort hospital, slightly injured. The driver is 65 years old and the passenger is 29 years old. The screenings carried out were negative.
