Saturday November 16, at 2 p.m., at the Grand Angle cinema in Fleurance, the cultural association La Floureto is organizing its monthly conference on a fascinating theme – as always: who was the Hauptmann Jäger, terror of the Gers resistance fighters? After the invasion of the free zone at the end of 1942 by the German army, a kommandantur was established in Auch. The Gers Resistance fighters were hunted down by the German occupiers. They risked death in combat or by summary execution and deportation. They were also cruelly tortured during their interrogation in the cellars of a famous hotel.
Who really was the man, who became the terror of the partisans, who directed the Nazi repression here? Was he really from the Gestapo? What exactly was he accused of? Who captured him at the Liberation? Who was this shorn woman who paraded at the head of the German prisoners in liberated Auch? And why, above all, was Jäger liquidated without trial after his capture at L'Isle-Jourdain? Was there fear, in certain circles, that he would not speak? 80 years later, Henri Calhiol (of the Gers Archaeological Society) returns to this mysterious aspect of the Liberation of the Gers which was kept under wraps for a long time because it was so disturbing. A fascinating reconstruction, abundantly illustrated. In particular by the original portrait of hauptman Jäger (which had been recovered during the capture of the German garrison at L'Isle-Jourdain). It will be brought by MM Da Silva (organizers of the Brugnens museum) and displayed near the screen throughout the conference. So the public will be able to discover it up close after the conference, with Xavier and Elian Da Silva remaining nearby to answer questions.
