Winter sets in quietly before its time in the mountains of France. The first major episodes of snow in the mountains occurred this Tuesday, November 12 in the mountains, accompanied by a drop in temperatures, falling 2 to 3°C below seasonal norms this week.
The snow landed this morning in the Vosges, from 1,000 meters, and in the Pyrenees, from 1,200 meters. Ditto in the Alps where snowfall appeared from 1,200 meters, in the south. Several videos have circulated on the web, revealing an immaculate landscape.
At the origin of this altitude depression, a cold drop which comes from the north-east of France, from Germany, causing a change in wind circulation and therefore a feeling lower than the displayed temperature.
Météo-France has also placed seven departments on yellow alert for snow and ice: Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Hautes-Pyrénées, Haute-Garonne, Ariège, Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and the Alpes-Maritimes.

And this is just the beginning. The Weather Channel forecasts this week between 10 to 15 cm of snow at 1,500 m altitude from the Jura to the Northern Alps.
