“The man in blue” had been called this for decades by the inhabitants of Limoges. It was a cyclist, aged 74 and always dressed in overalls. The latter was fatally struck by a motorist this Friday on the D979 in Eyjeaux, according to information from France Bleu Limousin.
The tragedy took place in the department of Haute-Vienne. It was between 6:15 p.m. and 6:25 p.m. when the septuagenarian on a bicycle was hit by a motorist. The latter did not stop.
An investigation opened for manslaughter
While a call for witnesses was relayed on the social networks of the Haute-Vienne gendarmerie, a man spontaneously surrendered to the police this Sunday. Aged 76, the motorist had made the decision to surrender after coming across the call for witnesses, launched a little earlier.
As part of his police custody, the septuagenarian explained that he thought he had hit an animal on this poorly lit departmental road. Having no criminal record, the motorist was finally released. According to the Limoges public prosecutor, a preliminary investigation was opened for involuntary manslaughter and hit-and-run.
