With two new deaths on the roads of Guyana, the toll for the year 2024 increases significantly.

The long armistice weekend was deadly on our roads. Shortly before midnight on Sunday evening, two people were killed in a collision between two cars on the Iracoubo road, at PK175 towards Organabo.

The toll is particularly heavy, since in addition to the deceased victims aged 60 and 52, there are three injured, two of whom were transported to the West Hospital Center and the other transferred to hospital.

A large number of firefighters from Mana and Iracoubo were deployed for the intervention which lasted several hours.

Two deaths on our roads are two too many. Today the report shows 26 killed, a little less than the 34 deaths recorded for the whole of 2023.

Motorists pay a heavy price as do moped riders who are the most frequent victims of fatal accidents.

Alcohol and speed are the leading causes of fatal accidents in 2024.
