The Channel, by in maritime configurationis at the forefront of the departments concerned by the global warming and thesea ​​level rise.

Today, 35% of the natural coastlines of the Manche department are receding (compared to an average of 20% in ) and there are nearly 36,000 ha of low-lying areas exposed to marine submersion.

Beyond the retreat of the coastline, the Channel will not escape increased risk of flooding : the rise in sea level will lead, through a domino effect, to groundwater overflows coastalet waterways .

And certain number of activitieson the coast are potentially at risk especially campsites and accommodation infrastructure by the sea.

A double ambition

The Department raise awareness on this subject in order to “ maintain and develop a tourist activity Who contributes to its economy while taking into account climate change by adapting to it.”

With the CAUE, the attractiveness agency Attitude Manche and four partner campsites, it is launching a territorial residence aimed at question attachments and practicesManchois as well as their prospects for adaptation .

This residency is a participatory research and creation project which has the dual ambition of revealing the characteristics of this attachment and tourist practices in these vacation spots, and of inviting local tourists to invent their dream solutions for future adaptation. Its aim is to help open the eyes of tourists, residents and local stakeholders to the challenges of the ecological transition of the coast, to raise questions and debate on tourist infrastructures, uses and lifestyles, links with the local environment.

The residency will be based on “a strong link” between the selected teamet local tourists .

Call for applications

Through three approaches (human and social sciences, regional planning, arts), professionals and students in these areas will be required to produce “ an artistic work shared with the territories, testifying to the residents' words campsites, in the spirit of vacation stories ».

Production must meet criteria linked to camping (genealogy, geography, temporality, links to the sea). Candidates must form pairs with proven skillsin the requested areas.

The residency will last four weeks, from end of June to beginning of September 2025 and on four locations, for one week per host campsite.

Two days of preparation with site visits in the spring are to be planned.

The departmental council

The calendar is arrested: from 06/21 to 06/28 at the Baie municipal campsite in Saint-Jean-le-Thomas; from 06/28 to 07/05 at the municipal campsite Le Clos Marin in Pirou; from 08/23 to 08/30 at the Clairefontaine municipal campsite in Siouville-Hague; from 08/30 to 09/06 at the private campsite Le Cormoran in Ravenoville.

A project team will support residents and be their contact. “The team in residence will be asked to implement a dynamic of exchange and discovery through work restitution tools (publications, photos, videos, blog, panels or others) and to organize a time for discussion on the artistic and cultural project with the residents at the end of each week of residence. »
