How can we talk about a summit described as a “farce” long before it was held last weekend at Bürgenstock, in the Swiss Alps? Even if for the majority of official Russian commentators the mass had already been said, the latter put their work back on the job on the evening of June 16 to note that around ten countries had not signed the final declaration, that the latter contained “only three small points” or that American President Joe Biden had not even taken the trouble to honor this Swiss peace initiative with his presence.

“Bitter pill for Zelensky”, “disappointment”… The popular press in Moscow gives the day after the Bürgenstock summit a good illustration of its ability to adapt to an international situation unfavorable to Russia. “No revolutionary statement was made. Except, from time to time, the sighs that without Russia we will achieve nothing,” we read in Moskovsky Komsomolets, a tabloid close to the Kremlin. The participation of friendly countries such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia or even Armenia and Georgia, considered to be part of Moscow’s sphere of influence, is mentioned in muted or passed over in silence. Just like the fact that certain countries of the Global South did indeed express during this summit a point of view different from that of the “collective West”.
