The Department of Manche moderately appreciated the open letter sent to it on Thursday, November 7, by elected officials from the Social and Environmental Left group, as well as the mayor of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. In question: the withdrawal of the €700,000 subsidy to finance the La Glacerie medical reception establishment for multiple disabled people. Or 50% of its budget.
“It is the exclusive competence of the State”
In return, the Department specifies that only non-medical establishments for people with disabilities are within its jurisdiction. In this case, the reception places in question, “are medical reception places under exclusive State jurisdiction”.
State faced with its responsibilities, at the moment when it “brutally withdraws 26 million euros of revenue from the departmental budget in 2025 by threatening its budgetary balance, [mettant] undermines his social skills.

The now threatened establishment, managed by the Acais association, results from a project launched in 2019 by the Regional Health Agency with which the Department ensures to remain “in close dialogue […] and remains attentive to supporting families.”
