REPORTAGE – A few weeks ago, the Alpe du Grand Serre resort announced its closure by 2025, plunging an entire region into uncertainty. A decision which echoes the difficulties of most mid-mountain resorts in the Alps, which are seeing their deficit widen as the snow disappears.

When he talks about the evening of October 4, Raymond Maslo searches for the right words to describe the shock wave that spread through his village. « It was a real cataclysm… There were a lot of tears. Nobody expected that here »relives the mayor of La Morte, a town of 139 inhabitants, perched on the Matheysin plateau, in Isère. That evening, the inhabitants of the village learned of the closure of the Alpe du Grand Serre ski resort, the area established in the town since 1938 and facing operating difficulties for several years, linked in particular to the lack of of snow.

Elected officials from the community of communes of Matheysine (CCM) voted against the public service delegation project, allowing the operation of the ski lifts for the next two seasons. Since then, the mobilization of residents, combined with that of other mountain stakeholders, has led community elected officials to grant an additional year of exploitation…
