It was 3:20 p.m. when the Haute-Saône firefighters were alerted by the rail traffic operational center. A pedestrian was hit near the town of Sorans-lès-Breureyby a train which circulated between Besançon and Belfort-Montbéliard.
Significant delays announced by the SNCF
A dozen firefighters intervention centers in Rioz and Vesoul are on site. The person, whose sex remains unknown, died instantly after being hit by the train which was traveling at more than 300 km/h according to the 70 firefighters.
Traffic has been completely interrupted since the accident, the train was urgently stopped two kilometers further, 600 passengers are on board. “Traffic will only be able to resume after authorization from the emergency services”, “an estimate of resumption is planned for the early evening”indicates SNCF Voyageurs on its website. According to the SNCF, it is necessary to plan “significant delays”. Some trains departing from or arriving at Belfort-Montbéliard are already more than four hours late.
