The Musée des Métiers de Saint-Laurent-de-la-Plaine (Mauges-sur-) ended its cultural season on Sunday, November 3, and closed its doors for the winter period. It's time for the team to take stock of its season. In total, 5,869 visitors passed through the museum's doors in 2024 (free tours, events, groups). A figure that is down significantly since the same figure was more than 7,000 visitors in 2023.

Fewer school children

The Musée des Métiers welcomed 38 adult groups in 2024, the same number as last year. On the other hand, the number of school groups welcomed, all levels combined, has decreased compared to 2023. Schools favored activities around sport in this Olympic year, explaining a slight drop in the number of students welcomed, a drop which had been anticipated by the teamsit is indicated in a press release. However, nearly 1,400 students were able to come and discover the museum, its trades of yesteryear and its activities on various themes (wood, textiles, the 1900 school, etc.).

Workshop success

The 2024 season was rich in activities and events, particularly with the opening of the new temporary exhibition “Artisans du patrimoine, le bois” Activities built around were a great success because they were popular with families. The “Little craftsman” activity (for children over 8 years old and their parents) offering a visit to the exhibition and the construction of an object, was 70% full, and the Cluedo saw its full slots throughout the summer. The “Little Apprentices” events which take place during the school holidays are always popular, particularly those this fall with the Halloween theme. As for the artisan demonstrations offered by the museum, they are always greatly appreciated by visitors, both through the discovery of a profession and through the sharing of experiences and knowledge brought by these passionate artisans.

Reopening in April 2025

The 2025 season will begin on Sunday April 6, 2025 during the European Crafts Days. This will mark the passage of the new temporary exhibition, dedicated to wood and the history of the Ateliers Perrault family and company.
