In the middle of a wood, out of sight, the Guénanec castlelocated in the municipality of Plumelin in Morbihan, is the subject of serious facelift. And the coating of the exterior stones which has been completely redone now gives it a more beautiful appearance.

Gîtes, guest rooms, yurthes…

Bought at auction for the sum of €437,000 by Serge Minier, an entrepreneur from Boulogne-sur-Mer, already the owner of several real estate properties, the residence which sits in the middle of 14 hectares property, needed to be renovated. And all the more so since the new owner has the ambition to make it a tourist accommodation complex with some lodges (in the outbuildings), guest rooms (in the castle), unusual accommodation (on a meadow).

The 65-year-old man who is from Morbihan (Hennebont), helped by his wife Nadège and his son Steeven who will be responsible for managing the place tomorrow, has therefore undertaken major work, to the tune of around 3 million euros.

“We have already designed the first gîte out of the five planned. We are currently finishing the second. »

As for the castle, the ten rooms which will, for the most part, be equipped with a sauna and a jacuzzi, are also being built.

All the openings have been replaced and the insulation of the castle has been completely revised. Same thing with the roof. Inside, concrete slabs made it possible to consolidate certain spaces such as the living room where a skylight will even be installed giving a room in the basement.

Outside, the pool has regained its former glory with surrounding paving created by students from the Saint-Jean-Brévelay horticultural high school.

No campsite

It still remains to design a vast terrace (12 x 15 m) which will house, below, a second reception roomsince there already exists one in the veranda which has also been restored.

“Our ambition is to ensure that the place is alive all year round. This is why we need sheltered spaces for the winter.”

THE family reunifications, birthdays, weddings, seminars, the owner of the Château de Guénanec – who will keep his name – does not hold back anything regarding the targeted clientele. And even if the complex will be of a relatively high standard, the price list should allow young couples to spend short stays (the weekend).

The idea is to offer dreams, tranquility and well-being to our future residents.

On the other hand, a camping was announced but ultimately there will be none. “We did not get permission to do this because part of the property is in a flood zone due to a small stream.”

Opening in May 2025

In the meantime, the works are in full swing and if Serge Minier had considered opening for the 2024 summer season, he has resigned himself to waiting until next year (May). “We took delay this winter because of the weather conditions but also because we had problems with certain craftsmen,” explains Serge Minier.

If their son Steeven and his friend Elodie have already settled here for a year, Serge and Nadège Minier will also move from Boulogne-sur-Mer to settle in Guénanec. In their new little paradise.
