Kayaker Quentin Bonnetain enters politics! At 35, the double world champion is running in the early legislative elections to become the deputy for South Ardèche. Emmanuel Macron’s office called him on Friday evening June 14 to propose to him to be the candidate of the presidential majority in the third constituency of the department.
Quentin Bonnetain considers this candidacy as “a new challenge”. “I didn’t necessarily expect ithe admits. I thought a lot all night though.” He explains his choice by “extreme lists on both sides”. Florence Pallot from La France Insoumise is invested by the New Popular Front And Cyrille Grangier is a candidate with the National Rally in this constituency of Aubenas. “As a social democrat, I had difficulty finding myself”continues the kayaker.
The campaign like a world championship
The double world champion is approaching this electoral campaign like his sporting competitions. “I am extremely motivated, completely, I’m going to tear myself apart like a top athlete who is preparing a world championship”he says, before adding: “The fact of being able invest in the south of Ardèche, on my territory, It’s like my kayak, I will put as much passion and as much energy into it to get there.”

Quentin Bonnetin unable to attempt to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games, after an imbroglio between the athletes and the French canoe-kayak federation over the selection procedures. The now political candidate says he is ready to put aside the kayaking world championships which take place next August in Spain, if he is elected and has work in the National Assembly. His substitute for the third constituency of Ardèche is Alexandra Cauquilalready candidate for the presidential majority in 2022.
