Accustomed to calls for solidarity, Jean-Marc Lesouef, head of the Capbreton Secours populaire committee, raises a completely different “cry of alarm”: “There is an increase in incivility. This is the third time since the start of the year that our clothing collection containers have been attacked. » The local section and its 90 volunteers deploy two.
After “tags, graffiti” earlier in the year, the device installed at the corner of Place de la Pépinière and Boulevard Loucheur was forced open during the night of Saturday October 26 to Sunday October 27. Informed by a neighbor, Jean-Marc Lesouef noticed that part of the contents had been stolen, the rest being scattered on the road, “therefore soaked and in a dirty state”.
A complaint
This new episode led him to write to the municipality and, above all, to file a complaint with the Capbreton gendarmerie the next day. A last resort in the face of his desolation: “For us, the volunteers, it's already complicated, we do this all year round and to be vandalized by imbeciles… We're fed up. »
Created in 1989, the Capbreton Secours populaire committee (which also has a Tarnosian branch) extends its tentacles to nearly 25 surrounding communities. The assistance offered is plural (food, administrative, material, educational, etc.). In 2023, the local branch of the association welcomed 458 people, including 350 for food aid, and served 58,128 meals.
