Who is the biker who has never dreamed of the great outdoors and the adventure of Route 66? From Chicago to Los Angeles, it winds like a scar on the skin of the desert, between canyons and infinite plains. Artists tell it, archive films bring its beginnings to life. Told by Kerouac and Steinbeck, it is the road to the American dream channeling the forces of a people towards the conquest of the West. Harley Davidson and Cadillac, ghost towns, rock and country music, Route 66 carries our dreams, our nostalgia for an idealized America. The Rout 66 (officially U.S. Route 66) is a former American road which connected Chicago (Illinois) to Santa Monica (California), between the years 1926 and 1985. Route 66 crosses three time zones and eight states (from east to west: Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma , Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California). During the Great Depression of the 1930s and the Dust Bowl drought, it was via Route 66 that farmers in search of work migrated to California. Route 66 was officially decommissioned in 1985. Although it no longer has an official existence, it retains a legendary character and is undoubtedly the best-known American road. Since the beginning of the 1990s, movements have been created to ensure its preservation, and initiatives aimed at developing tourism there are increasingly numerous. The road is again signposted in several places under the name Historic Route 66. Come relive a part of the American dream this evening, discuss with the author of the film, knowing that in the room some bikers have already made this dream come true, they will be able to tell you about it. Film by Christian Vérot. Monday, November 18 at 6 p.m., Morcenx cinema in the presence of the speaker.
